About This Attraction
The Selimiye Mosque, formerly known as the Cathedral of Saint Sophia, is one of Nicosia’s most iconic landmarks. Originally built as a Roman Catholic cathedral, it was later converted into a mosque. It stands as the largest and oldest surviving Gothic church in Cyprus, measuring 66 by 21 meters and accommodating up to 2,500 worshippers. Its stunning architecture and historical significance make it one of the city’s most important cultural and religious sites.
